My name is Mike, 36, Virgo who loves to…. Just kidding.

Mike the barber works.

I’m born and raised in Northern Michigan and recently made the move back to Southeast Michigan to support my fiancés career change and my goal to bring something to the great community in this circle between Flint and Metro Detroit.

I’ll make this medium short and sweet-

I went to barber college in Indianapolis, where I spent most of my 20’s and after working for a year as a barber in Bloomington Indiana and some big life changes found my way to Los Angeles with the goal to work at a phenomenal barber shop in Venice called Service and Supply. After being persistent and chasing that opportunity, I was very lucky to be accepted into that shop and I spent about a year and a half growing and learning from that team which truly developed the majority of my skill sets, attention to detail and business/client relations side of the industry. Life ended up leading me to Nashville at the beginning of 2019 where I was sad to leave but open to a new adventure. I then worked at a shop called The Blockhouse, which was another awesome learning curve for me with a fun team but that got an unfortunate stop when covid-19 came into all of our lives.

I had a plan at that point to make the move back to Michigan and open a shop in Traverse City but had some time to develop that plan due to the pandemic and Alex at Service and Supply offered me a learning experience to assist him in opening a new location in Long Beach so I could see how the process works. That 4 months gave me enough knowledge to bring back to Michigan and open a spot up north called Great Lakes Barber Shop, which is still operating.

I spent 6 months searching for spaces in this area and kept coming up empty with what I was looking for and another barber I had the pleasure of working with in California, Ryan, had started a mobile shop out there and after picking his brain about it and getting some advice, I decided that was the route I was going to take. It is a great mix of community, convenience, luxury service and adventure all tied into one and I’m really looking forward to providing the services of making people feel better and getting to know them at the same time.
